But this mattress, because it's filled with air, behaves more like a waterbed, allowing you to sink into it and thus be more throughly surrounded by the memory foam on top. This mattress is not hard if you don't overfill it. I think the combination of this with memory foam is a great idea. I cannot speak for how comfortable it is without memory foam.The pump that came with this is useful. It's made of strong and durable plastic. It filled the mattress pretty quickly.
